For Writers, A Room Of Their Own - The Gingerman
This year, the game writers have a bar they can call their own - the Gingerman. We're still fans of Maggie Mae's (the official conference bar) and we'll be visiting both spots during the conference. We hope you will too.
We're crazy about the Gingerman, for lots of reasons.
* The friendly vibe
* The library
* The snugs
* The beer garden
* The jukebox
* The EXTENSIVE beer selection
* The location (away from the convention center!)
Q: Where is it located? Can you give me directions?
A: Sure. From the convention center, head west on 2nd Street...
Turn right on Congress...
Turn left on 4th Street...
Walk two blocks down, and you're there.
Q: Is it within walking distance of the convention center?
A: Yes. The Gingerman is less than half a mile from the convention center, and once you're there, you're close to all the downtown spots. It's an easy walk. But if you're loaded down with gear and would rather take it easy, catch one of Austin's pedicabs. They are fun, easy, convenient and eco-friendly (pedal power all the way)
So come on down. Huddle in a snug with your favorite writer for a private chat, or join the crowd in the beer garden and have a pint under the starry Texas sky.
See you there!

Another reason to visit is I have heard that the Ginger Man is going to go the way of many other Austin landmarks and be closed or relocated in the name of "progress" soon. So go now and get that fine Belgian abbey ale while you still can! -- A Local
