    Building your next big 3D game doesn't mean that you need a big commercial 3D engine to bring your game to market!  Hear from lead developers in several open source 3D engine communities about the features and benefits of these engines.

    Speaker: Erwin Coumans* - Main author of the Bullet Physics Library and Simulation team lead at Sony Computer Entertainment America

    Bullet is used by professional game developers on PlayStation 3, XBox 360, Wii, Mac, iPhone, PC etc. It has been optimized for PlayStation 3 SPU in collaboration with Rockstar. Several commercial game companies and movie companies use it and make contributions. This talk will discuss open source combined with proprietary software development, licensing issues and collaboration with big game studios.

    What tools do you need in your toolchain to build a complete production pipeline?  Where do find these tools and how do they work together?  From IDEs to graphic tools, this session explores everything you need to make sure you can complete your game, all using open source technologies!

    2D games have exploded on the web in everything from casual games to retro remakes.  This session will demonstrate open source 2D engines that will help you get your creative vision out to the masses.

    4:00pm - 5:00pm: Project Darkstar: Open Source Technology for Multi-threaded Game Development

    Speakers: Yi Wang and Owen Kellett, Sun Microsystems' Project Darkstar Team

    Project Darkstar is open source game server software created by Sun Microsystems to simplify the development of multi-threaded online games. These games take full advantage of today's multi-core processors to deliver a new generation of scalability.Using a case study as an illustrative example, this session will you show you how to design games to use this new architecture, and how to build them using Project Darkstar's simple programming model.
